Comparison of Loss ratios of different scheduling algorithms

چکیده
It is well known that in a firm real time system with a renewal arrival process, exponential service times and stochastic deadlines till the end of service of a job, the earliest deadline first (EDF) scheduling policy has smaller loss ratio (expected fraction of jobs that are not completed) than any other service time independent scheduling policy, including the first come first served (FCFS) policy. Various modifications to the EDF and FCFS policies have been proposed in the literature, with a view to improving performance. In this article, we compare the loss ratios of these two policies along with some of the said modifications, as well as their counterparts with deterministic deadlines. The results include some formal inequalities and some counterexamples to establish non-existence of an order. A few relations involving loss ratios are posed as conjectures, and simulation results in support of these are reported. These results lead to a complete picture of dominance and non-dominance relations between pairs of scheduling policies, in terms of loss ratios.

A comparison of algorithms for minimizing the sum of earliness and tardiness in hybrid flow-shop scheduling problem with unrelated parallel machines and sequence-dependent setup times
In this paper, the flow-shop scheduling problem with unrelated parallel machines at each stage as well as sequence-dependent setup times under minimization of the sum of earliness and tardiness are studied. The processing times, setup times and due-dates are known in advance. To solve the problem, we introduce a hybrid memetic algorithm as well as a particle swarm optimization algorithm combine...
متن کاملOptimality of the flexible job shop scheduling system based on Gravitational Search Algorithm
The Flexible Job Shop Scheduling Problem (FJSP) is one of the most general and difficult of all traditional scheduling problems. The Flexible Job Shop Problem (FJSP) is an extension of the classical job shop scheduling problem which allows an operation to be processed by any machine from a given set. The problem is to assign each operation to a machine and to order the operations on the machine...

متن کاملScheduling on flexible flow shop with cost-related objective function considering outsourcing options
This study considers outsourcing decisions in a flexible flow shop scheduling problem, in which each job can be processed by either an in-house production line or outsourced. The selected objective function aims to minimize the weighted sum of tardiness costs, in-house production costs, and outsourcing costs with respect to the jobs due date. The purpose of the problem is to select the jobs tha...
متن کاملA Reliability based Modelling and Optimization of an Integrated Production and Preventive Maintenance Activities in Flowshop Scheduling Problem
Traditional scheduling problems with the batch processing machines (BPM) assume that machines are continuously available, and no time is needed for their preventive maintenance (PM). In this paper, we study a realistic variant of flowshop scheduling which integrates flow shop batch processing machines (FBPM) and preventive maintenance for minimizing the makespan. In order to tackle the given pr...
